Frequently Asked Questions

How can I be sure what a cowhide will look like?

Cow hides are shown on our website as an indication of the type, size and quality of hides. These are based on those available for purchase from our shopfront in Bungendore NSW.
Please visit our store or contact us for more information.

I am not in Australia, can I still buy animal hides?

Yes. All of the hides we stock can be exported from Australia although there may be limits on quantity and a demand for a permit. However, it is the duty of the buyer to check the import laws of the target country to ensure there will be no quarantine issues on arrival and additionally obtain the relevant Australian or CITES permits if needed. Permits will also be required for international orders of kangaroo and crocodile products.

You can obtain information about exporting regulations and permit applications from the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.

My leather product has some unusual marks on it. What are they?

Leather is a natural product, a skin, and like human skin it contains blemishes and imperfections which will appear on the final manufactured product. It is not uncommon to find variations in the grain, areas that feel thicker or thinner than the surrounding area or even scarring on the leather. Equally, the tanning and dyeing processes can mask or add to marks and also result in new markings on the leather. Further, these marks are a tell-tale sign that your product is genuine leather and not synthetic. Additionally, markings you find on your product are unique and also ensure that your product is one of a kind.

How do I determine my hat size?

Different manufacturers use different sizing scales to size their hats. Some manufacturers work in centimetres, inches and on a S/M/L basis etc. To determine your size, measure the circumference of your head, starting at the centre of your forehead and measuring the whole way around the crown. Then, once you have this measurement, use our conversion table below to select the correct size for your style of hat.

How do I determine my belt size?

Belts are commonly sized in inches, although some manufacturers also provide metric sizes on their belts. Although commonly thought, the size of a belt is not determined by measuring the whole length of the belt. Size is taken from the length between the bottom of the buckle and the middle buckle hole. To determine your belt size, take your hip or waist measurement, depending on where you intend to wear the belt. This will ensure your belt is initially sized at the middle hole, leaving 2-3 holes on either side to accommodate changes in weight or body measurements.

NB: we will not refund a product if it has been ordered in the wrong size or colour. We will however be happy to exchange if the product is returned to us in saleable condition with a self-addressed and postage paid envelope enclosed.

*Quick Tip – In most cases, your belt size will be the same as the top measurement of a pair of well fitting pants or trousers.
