History of our Family

Brian Lake was born into a family with a background covering a generation in leather craft. Taught by his parents Meg & Barry Lake, Meg being one of Australia’s finest leather artists; Brian served his apprenticeship as a youth. He went on to win many awards as well as becoming renowned for his knowlege andskill in this craft. Brian’s family started the business known as Lakes Leather craft in Middle Head Rd Mosman, Sydney, in 1969. The first gallery was opened in Narooma when the family moved to the NSW South Coast in 1976. Brian took over the family business in 1990, moving it to Canberra. Two retail galleries were opened soon after, Ginninderra Leather and Trading Company in 1991[relocating in 2009 to Westfield Woden]. Bungendore Village Leather followed in 1994, still opened today from 10am – 5pm every day. Our latest and largest outlet, Leather & Trading situated in Westfield Woden – Canberra opened in 2009.

Pushing forward with the demand from our customers we have rescently opened a new store at Westfield Belconnen, Canberras number one retail centre. This shop Leather & Trading Belconnen opened in October 2012 and was recieved exceptionaly well by the public.
